Come riconoscere le fake news (finchè si può) - Dismantle fake news (while you can)

Riconoscere le notizie false, le "fake news", sarà sempre più difficile man mano che le intelligenze artificiali prenderanno il controllo del nostro mondo. Ma finchè ci è ancora concesso di avere un dominio ... usiamolo. Non cadere nella trappola è possibile, e nemmeno tanto difficile.

Dovete tenere a mente due cose: i media cercheranno sempre di catturare la vostra attenzione esagerando con le parole; dietro ogni notizia c'è un fatto, una fonte, a cui risalire.

Esempio. Se leggeste domani sul giornale il titolo: ERUZIONE DELL'ETNA. SI EVACUA LA CITTA' DI BRONTE. Ovviamente verreste assaliti dall'ansia, dallo sconforto, anche dalla paura se avete familiari che vivono a Bronte. Ma magari, se prima di impazzire, andate a leggere l'articolo quasi sicuramente non troverete nulla di così drammatico. Magari leggerete, verso metà del testo: "se l'eruzione continuasse per altri 9 mesi sarebbe necessario evacuare la città di Bronte". Dunque non sta succedendo. Non adesso. E forse non succederà mai. Ma grazie al titolo allarmistico voi siete nella trappola... avete regalato clic e soldi a quel giornale.

Se nemmeno l'articolo vi convincesse, potete ancora valutare la sincerità di questo titolo terribile. Cercate "eruzione, Bronte, evacuazione" su Google. Se altri siti e giornali portano la notizia probabilmente è vera. Se la riporta solo un titolo... certamente non lo è. Infine, potreste chiamare i vigili urbani di Bronte, o amici che abitano in zona e verificare personalmente se questa notizia è vera.

Lo stesso vale per ogni argomento: vaccini, guerre, disastri, calamità naturali, fatti di cronaca. VERIFICATE, andate oltre il titolo o la "voce". Così si smontano le fake news.

Purtroppo esistono già forme di Intelligenza Artificiale che "fabbricano dal nulla" riviste scientifiche, trattati di meteorologia, rapporti di geologia quasi del tutto identici a quelli veri. E questo è un dramma che ci aspetta al varco... perchè quando queste macchine riusciranno anche a riprodurre le "fonti" su cui si verificano le notizie, la confusione sarà totale. Ma fino ad allora...fino al giorno in cui il genere umano si darà la fine da solo ... continuiamo a usare il cervello.

Recognizing fake news will be increasingly difficult as artificial intelligences take control of our world. But while we are still allowed to have a role and a rule ... let's use it. Not falling into the trap is possible, and not even that difficult.

You must keep two things in mind: the media will always try to capture your attention by exaggerating with words; behind every news item there is a fact, a source, to go back to.

Example. If you read the headline in the newspaper tomorrow: ERUPTION OF MT ETNA. EVACUATION OF THE CITY OF BRONTE. Obviously you would be assailed by anxiety, despair, even fear if you have family members who live in Bronte. But maybe, before going crazy, you should go and read the article; you almost certainly won't find anything so dramatic. Maybe you will read, towards the middle of the text: "if the eruption continues for 9 months it would be necessary to evacuate the city of Bronte". So, it's not happening. Not now. And maybe it will never happen. But thanks to the alarmist title you are in the trap... you have given clicks and money to that newspaper.

If not even the article convinces you, you can still evaluate the sincerity of this terrible title. Search "eruption, Bronte, evacuation" on Google. If other sites and newspapers report the news it is probably true. If only a headline reports it...  certainly it is not. Finally, you could call the Bronte police, or friends who live in the area and personally verify if this news is true.

The same goes for every topic: vaccines, wars, disasters, natural tragedies, news stories. DO VERIFY, go beyond the title or the "rumor". This is how you dismantle fake news.

Unfortunately, there are already forms of Artificial Intelligence that "manufacture from scratch" scientific journals, meteorology treatises, geology reports, creating them as identical as the real ones. And this is a drama that awaits us at the pass... because when these machines will also be able to reproduce the "sources" on which the news are verified, the confusion will be total. But until then... until the day in which the human race will give an end to itself... let's continue to use our brains.

Reconocer las noticias falsas será cada vez más difícil a medida que las inteligencias artificiales tomen el control de nuestro mundo. Pero mientras todavía se nos permita tener un papel y una regla... usémosla. No caer en la trampa es posible, y ni siquiera tan difícil. 

Debes tener en cuenta dos cosas: los medios siempre intentarán captar tu atención exagerando con las palabras; detrás de cada noticia hay un hecho, una fuente, a la que recurrir. 

Ejemplo. Si mañana lees el titular del periódico: ERUPCIÓN DEL ETNA. EVACUACIÓN DE LA CIUDAD DE BRONTE. Obviamente te asaltará la ansiedad, la desesperación, incluso el miedo si tienes familiares que viven en Bronte. Pero tal vez, antes de volverte loco, deberías ir a leer el artículo; casi seguro que no encontrarás nada tan dramático. Tal vez leas, hacia la mitad del texto: "si la erupción continúa durante 9 meses sería necesario evacuar la ciudad de Bronte". Entonces, no está sucediendo. No ahora. Y tal vez nunca suceda. Pero gracias al título alarmista estás en la trampa... has dado clics y dinero a ese periódico. 

Si ni siquiera el artículo te convence, aún puedes evaluar la sinceridad de ese terrible título. Busca en Google "erupción, Bronte, evacuación". Si otros sitios y periódicos informan de la noticia, probablemente sea cierta. Si solo lo informa un titular... seguro que no. Finalmente, podrías llamar a la policía de Bronte, o a amigos que vivan en la zona y verificar personalmente si esta noticia es cierta. 

Lo mismo ocurre con todos los temas: vacunas, guerras, desastres, tragedias naturales, noticias. VERIFICA, ve más allá del título o del "rumor". Así es como se desmontan las noticias falsas. 

Por desgracia, ya existen formas de Inteligencia Artificial que "fabrican desde cero" revistas científicas, tratados de meteorología, informes de geología, creándolos tan idénticos a los reales. Y este es el drama que nos espera en el futuro... porque cuando estas máquinas también puedan reproducir las "fuentes" en las que se verifican las noticias, la confusión será total. Pero hasta entonces... hasta el día en que la raza humana se dé la muerte por sì misma ... sigamos usando el cerebro.
